How To Choose A Motorhome
There are several good reasons to get yourself a motorhome. Whether you’re looking for your first RV or the next one, a motorhome can be one of the most convenient options out there, especially because they let you skip the whole hitching process.
There are so many kinds of motorhomes on the market that narrowing down your options to a single choice can seem like an impossible task. To help make a decision, we at Chesapeake RV Solutions have created the following guide. When you want to check out some of the models for yourself, head to our dealership in Chesapeake, VA. We also cover the areas of Virginia Beach and Suffolk!
Class
The first thing you should know is that the industry has broken down RV motorhomes into different classes. Look at the models in a dealership and you’ll see how different one type is from the next one.
Class A motorhomes are the biggest rigs. They’re more like a bus than your pickup truck or car. You can spot a Class A motorcoach by its flat front and the wide, panoramic window in front. These models are usually the most luxurious ones on the market, and have some of the latest and best amenities. They’re a favorite choice for big families and full-time RVers.
With Class B motorhomes, you travel to the other end of the spectrum. These are usually the smallest motorcoaches and look more like large vans than luxury RVs. Despite this, they usually have very comfortable accommodations though they won’t have as many amenities as other RV motorhomes. Usually, they can only comfortably sleep one or two people.
Class C motorhomes are more ambiguous than the first two, though there is a technical distinction for them. These models are seen as a middle ground for size, price and amenities offered. But what truly sets them apart from the rest is the truck chassis. They can be a great first-time purchase for people who don’t want to spend top dollar but still want the extra space.
Amenities
As mentioned earlier, the kinds of amenities you get change from one model to the next and one class to the next. Some will offer you only the essentials, while others will provide luxurious pampering. Most come standard with a sleeping area and living area of some kind, which can include a kitchen, lounge furniture, a dinette and a bathroom.
If you want, you can always add on features you want, like exterior kitchens, multiple entertainment centers, fireplaces, expandable countertops and much more. Remember that the more features your motorhomes has, the more expensive it will be. If you really want an amenity or feature, however, don’t shirk it just to save a little money. Even non-essential amenities can add a lot to your camping experience.
Size
You final choice should take into account the size difference between the classes of motorcoaches. Ensure that there’s enough space and sleeping arrangements for all the campers you plan to have on board. In fact, we recommend allowing one or two additional arrangements for any guests you might have over.
The more time you plan to spend in your motorhome, the more space you’ll need inside. Feeling cramped for a week or two is very different from feeling cramped on the road all through longer trips. Don’t forget that many motorhomes, even Class B motorhomes, come with slide-outs, which can expand the amount of space you have to work with. Take size accommodations seriously, as close quarters can quickly agitate some campers.
