We love to camp, and whether you’ve just started out on your RV journey and are looking for a place to try out in your new RV, or you’ve been RVing for years, these campings destinations in VA are fantastic!
There are four different parks to choose from, and each is unique and beautiful in its own way. Between Claytor Lake, Fairy Stone, Natural Bridge, and Smith Mountain, you’ll want to visit them all!
Natural Bridge State Park

If you’re a history buff, you’ll want to stop at Natural Bridge State Park first. This park is overflowing with history! Once owned by Thomas Jefferson and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 215-foot tall Natural Bridge is a limestone gorge carved out by Cedar Creek. At the Rockbridge Center, exhibits and a gift shop will start you off in the right direction to explore the vistas surrounding the mountains and the famous, beautiful bridge. Not only that, but there are 6 miles of great hiking trails as well!
Claytor Lake State Park

Love fishing? The Claytor Lake State Park is the perfect place for you. Bass, catfish, muskie, walleye and striped bass are among the popular sport fish found in the lake, and you can take your boat out on the lake as well! There are trails as well in Claytor, which is great for when you’re ready to venture from your RV site.
Fairy Stone State Park

Got the kids with you? You won’t want to miss swimming in Fairy Stone State Park. This is a great place to relax near the water and breathe in the fresh water. On hot days, everyone loves to jump into beautiful waters, and Fairy Stone Lake is a great place to adventure in. A unique thing about Fairy Stone is that it allows horses on its trails. Although it doesn’t rent them out, it does give horse owners a chance to take their beautiful animals out into the woods for a nice trail ride.
Smith Mountain State Park

And last but not least, we have the beautiful Smith Mountain. With a whopping total of 13 hiking trails through the pine tree forests, you won’t get bored here! You’ll be able to enjoy such serene, beautiful scenery while out on your boat fishing, or on one of the two public beaches offered.
Boat rentals are also offered at this particular state park. Take rented canoes, kayaks, hydrobikes, paddleboats, pontoon boats, ski boats, and jet skis out on the water!
