Exterior Storage
Many camper models come with built-in exterior storage spaces. This extra room is excellent for things like fold-up chairs and tables. If your model doesn’t come with this feature, or it does and you want even more room, you can invest in add-ons like roof racks, front racks, and rear hitch racks.
Living Areas
The real difficulty is getting all of your personal belongings where you need them to be in a way that doesn’t make your space into utter chaos. Luckily, there are a few ways to add storage space in unobtrusive but useful ways.
Hanging Storage
If you have a blank wall with about a foot of space on it, you’ve got storage space! These are a handful of ways to turn any wall space into storage space:
- Add key hangers for small items like keys, sunglasses, hats, and light jackets.
- Place broom holders for holding anything from flashlights to swiffers.
- Use Velcro® strips on furniture or walls to hang remotes and other small items.
Furniture Storage
Furniture is great for holding you, but did you know it can also be great for holding your stuff? Many items of furniture double as storage containers, either by design or with a few small modifications.
- Collapsible ottomans with storage can be great foot rests or can hold items like blankets or books. When you’re not using them, just fold them up and put them away!
- Over-the-seat organizers on any fixed chairs can help corral various odds and ends.
- Slide-out drawers can be added to tables for pens, paper, cards, or other small knicknacks.
The Kitchen
Your cooking space, if you have one, is already going to be fairly limited. The right prepware and serving dishes can maximize your cooking and eating space without sacrificing your ability to cook delicious homemade meals. Here are a few ideas for how to transform what’s in your cupboards:
- Stackable bowls and measuring cups can easily fit inside one another, taking only as much space as the largest bowl/cup.
- Square food storage containers maximize the amount of food you can put in them while being easily stackable. Avoid sloping sides to minimize wasted space between containers.
- Foldable tea kettles can heat water efficiently and simply be slid wherever it fits when not in use.
- Magnetic tape on your kitchen backsplash can hold your knives steady without wasting counter or drawer space. lazy susan lets you find whatever spices you’re looking for without digging around the drawer or cupboard.
- An over-the-door trash basket, either for a large door or inside a cupboard, saves space.
- Hanging baskets or hammocks can hold your fruit and veggies without leaving them all over the counter.
- Pots and pans with removable handles are easier to stack!
The Closet
Don’t let your clothes conquer your travel trailer bedroom. With the below strategies, you’ll keep your clothing under control without sacrificing your style:
- Bring as few clothes as you can without risking running out. Rely on minimalist fashion or capsule wardrobes to stay stylish.
- Pack laundry soap for hand-washing items so you can re-wear them, or bring change to utilize a nearby laundromat.
- Hanging storage in your closet can help keep your socks, pjs, sweats, towels, and more tidy.
- Buy ultra-slim hangers to minimize the space they take up.
- Get hooks on your hangers for easy storage of hats, ties, scarves, and other accessories.
- A collapsible laundry tub or mesh hamper for dirty clothes can help keep them in one place without wasting space.
Your Tow Vehicle
Don’t forget that your tow vehicle has plenty of room as well! Store items in your trunk or on or under your seats. A second roof rack for your tow vehicle can add even more storage space for things like bikes and kayaks.
